NISSAN ADDS TO VEHICLE TESTING FACILITIES
TOKYO, Oct. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Nissan strengthened its ability to

develop high quality vehicles that meet the needs of local customers with the opening today of a $5.8 million(a) Weather Test Center on the island of Okinawa, Japan. The facility will evaluate the durability of various materials that go into the making of world class quality vehicles under the combination of abundant sunlight, high temperature, high humidity and salt air on Okinawa.
The facility will complement Nissan's global research and testing capabilities, that seek to factor in to product development right from the start, the needs and tastes of customers in their specific markets by examining the local conditions under which people use Nissan and Infiniti vehicles. These facilities include hot and dry weather testing in Arizona, cold weather testing in Hokkaido in northern Japan and Kapaskasing, Canada, and performance testing at proving grounds in Japan, the U.S. and Europe.
Taking advantage of the unique combination of climatic conditions available on Okinawa, Nissan will expose samples of paints, fabrics, steel, components, trim parts and other materials, as well as completed vehicles, to these varying weather and geographic conditions. At the 2.5 acre test site, these materials will be monitored for corrosion resistance, changes in luster, color and durability and analyzed for application to future Nissan and Infiniti vehicles.
Test equipment includes 152 test beds for material durability evaluations, 10 stationary vehicle test stands and a variety of equipment used in recording weather conditions and evaluating test data.
 (a) -- Converted at $1/120 yen.
