NINE PROPERTIES ARE SPARKLING ADDITIONS TO AAA FIVE DIAMOND LIST

ORLANDO, Fla., Nov. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Five lodgings and four restaurants have become the latest jewels in the American Automobile Association's crown of prestigious Five Diamond establishments.
The 1994 newcomers are among 49 lodgings and 21 restaurants in 18 states, Canada, the Caribbean and Mexico that have the Five Diamond designation -- AAA's highest rating for properties renowned for luxurious facilities and uncompromising standards of excellence.
The most recent additions to AAA's elite lodgings list are: The Peninsula Beverly Hills, Beverly Hills, Calif.; The Ritz-Carlton Atlanta, Atlanta; Grand Wailea Resort Hotel & Spa, Wailea, Hawaii; the Jefferson, Richmond, Va.; and the Four Seasons Hotel, Toronto, Ontario.
Hawaii and California are tied for the most Five Diamond hotels and resorts with six properties each. Mexico is next with four.
Restaurants new to the ranks of Five Diamonds are: The Pavilion, Newport Beach, Calif.; Jean Louis, Washington, D.C.; The Dining Room in the Hilton at Short Hills, Short Hills, N.J.; and Les Celebrites, New York.
With a total of three, New York City now boasts more Five Diamond restaurants than any city in North America. New York's other Five Diamond restaurants are The Four Seasons and Le Bernardin, both of which have held this diamond designation for six consecutive years.
"AAA recognizes the dedication to customer satisfaction, attention to detail and enormous amount of work that go into attaining and staying at the Five Diamond level," said Graeme Clarke, vice president, AAA Travel, Marketing and Financial Services.
"Such achievement is even more impressive when you recognize it was accomplished in a less than robust economy. We commend these fine establishments for their unwavering commitment to excellence," he said.
Fewer than 1 percent of the more than 30,000 lodgings and restaurants listed in AAA's 1994 TourBooks(R) and TravelBooks(R) received the Five Diamond rating.
AAA-approved lodgings and restaurants undergo a rigorous annual inspection by 60 full-time professionals and receive an overall rating of between one and five diamonds. Ratings appear next to lodging and restaurant listings in AAA TourBooks. Nearly 34 million TourBooks and TravelBooks were distributed to AAA members last year.
AAA is a not-for-profit federation of 137 motor clubs with more than 1,000 offices providing nearly 35 million members in the United States and Canada with travel, insurance, financial and auto-related services.
