NIKE FOURTH QUARTER EARNINGS FORECAST

 NIKE FOURTH QUARTER EARNINGS FORECAST
BEAVERTON, Ore., May 15 /PRNewswire/ -- NIKE, Inc. (NYSE: NKE)

Chairman Philip H. Knight indicated today he expects earnings for the company's fourth quarter and fiscal year, which ends May 31, 1992, to fall at the lower end of the range of analysts' estimates. The company is aware of estimates for the full year ranging from $4.20 to as high as $4.50 per share. He also stated the company is comfortable with the average level of analysts' estimates for next fiscal year, or approximately $5.00 per share.
"Fiscal 1992 will be another record year for NIKE. As a result of this success, opportunities have arisen in domestic and international markets prompting us to accelerate certain advertising and infrastructure spending plans, thus reducing our earnings in the near term. This positive, aggressive strategic decision will help secure future growth. Our position as the leading brand in the U.S. has never been stronger and we continue to be encouraged by our momentum in Europe, Asia and Latin America."
"These steps will lead to the achievement of our goal to grow to $6 billion by 1996 to derive 50 percent of revenues from international markets by that time."
The company plans to report official results for the fourth quarter and full fiscal year on Wednesday, July 8.
