NIGERIA - Offshore Finds.Shell on July 28 announced it had made two discoveries in Nigeria's deep-water offshore as part of its Big Cat project there. Further appraisal was needed to determine their resource potential. The finds were made by Shell Nigeria Ultra Deep Ltd. and Shell Nigeria Exploration Properties Alpha Ltd. The wells, in blocks OPL OPL Open Publication License OPL Olympus Product Line (Sun) OPL outer plexiform layer OPL Organiser Programming Language (PSION) OPL On-Premise Laundry OPL Optical Path Length OPL Open Public License 322 and OPL 245, were in frontier areas. Bobo-1X was drilled in block OPL 322, to a total depth of 5,173 metres in 2,479 metres of water, the second deepest well in offshore Nigeria. Drilling was completed on July 16, under budget, and found over 140 metres of hydrocarbon hydrocarbon (hī'drōkär`bən), any organic compound composed solely of the elements hydrogen and carbon. The hydrocarbons differ both in the total number of carbon and hydrogen atoms in their molecules and in the proportion of hydrogen bearing sands. Shell Nigeria Exploration Properties Alpha has 40% in OPL 322. Etan-1X was drilled in block OPL 245 to a total depth of 4,574 metres in 1,720 metres of water. The well logged 120 metres of hydrocarbon bearing sands. OPL 245 is 100% held by Shell Nigeria Ultra Deep. Drilling was completed on Feb. 20, 2005.
