NHL ROUNDUP: NEW NO. 1 GOALIE GIGUERE HELPS AS DUCKS TIE OILERS.

Byline: Daily News Staff and Wire Services

Jean-Sebastian Giguere, making his first start since being named the Mighty Ducks' new No. 1 goalie, stopped 37 Edmonton shots Wednesday night as the Ducks and Oilers played to a 3-3 tie at the Pond.

Mike Leclerc scored with 1:06 left in the third period and set up a power-play goal by Marty McInnis as the Ducks rallied twice from one-goal deficits.

Teemu Selanne also scored for Anaheim and Paul Kariya had two assists, but the Ducks remained winless in a club-record 11 consecutive home games (0-8-3) since beating Florida in overtime on Jan. 3.

Sergei Zholtok ended a 26-game scoring drought with the tie-breaking goal and Mike Grier scored short-handed for the Oilers, who were 0 for 7 on the power play. Center Todd Marchant missed the game because of a sprained right knee.

Daniel Cleary had a goal and an assist and Igor Ulanov added two assists for the Oilers, who increased their lead over the Kings to five points in the race for the final Western Conference playoff berth.

Anaheim is the worst of 15 teams in the NHL's Western Conference and only Tampa Bay (38 points) and the New York Islanders (36) are worse than the Ducks' 44 points.

Edmonton goalie Tommy Salo stopped Mike Crowley's shot from the left point with his shoulder, but Leclerc grabbed the puck and scored, his 14th of the season.

--San Jose 7, Chicago 0: Playing for the first time since Jan. 27, Scott Thornton scored two goals and had an assist as the Sharks extended their unbeaten road record to a franchise-record nine games.

--Ottawa 3, New Jersey 2: Martin Havlat and Marian Hossa scored first-period goals as the visiting Senators won their Eastern Conference showdown with the Devils.

--Philadelphia 3, New York Islanders 1: Mark Recchi and Simon Gagne each had a goal and assist as the Flyers moved within two points of the Atlantic Division lead with their win in Uniondale.

--Pittsburgh 2, Minnesota 1: Mario Lemieux scored twice in the third period as the host Penguins, frustrated for most of two games by Minnesota's neutral zone trap, rallied.

--Florida 4, Phoenix 3: Pavel Bure scored three times, giving him seven goals in two games, and Greg Adams got the game-winner against his former team as the Panthers won at home.

--Detroit 4, Carolina 3 (OT): Sergei Fedorov's second goal of the game, scored with 2:09 left in overtime, lifted the Red Wings to their come- from-behind victory at Joe Louis Arena.

--Columbus 2, Toronto 2: Tyler Wright scored midway through the third period as the visiting Blue Jackets gained the tie.

--Washington 4, Vancouver 3: Adam Oates scored twice, including the winner 4:19 into overtime, as the Capitals extended their unbeaten streak to eight games, winning in Vancouver.
