NHL NOTEBOOK: SHARKS ACQUIRE FORWARD BELL.

Byline: Staff and Wire Services

The San Jose Sharks The San Jose Sharks are a professional ice hockey team based in San Jose, California, United States. They are members of the Pacific Division of the Western Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL).  acquired versatile forward Mark Bell from Chicago on Monday as part of a three-team trade that sent Ottawa forward Martin Havlat to the Blackhawks.

The Sharks traded defensemen Tom Preissing Thomas Joseph Preissing (born December 3, 1978 in Arlington Heights, Illinois although he grew up in Rosemount, Minnesota) is a professional ice hockey defenceman who last played for the Ottawa Senators of the NHL and signed with the Los Angeles Kings on July 2, 2007 as a free  and Josh Hennessy to Chicago for Bell, who had career highs of 25goals and 23 assists last season.

The Blackhawks then shipped Preissing and Hennessy to the Senators along with defenseman Michal Barinka Michal Barinka (born June 12, 1984 in Vyškov, Czech Republic) is a Czech professional ice hockey defenceman who currently plays for the Ottawa Senators. He was drafted 59th overall in the 2nd round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks.  and a 2008 second-round draft pick in exchange for Havlat and forward Bryan Smolinski Bryan Smolinski (b. The deal fills needs for all three teams. The Sharks got another top forward to join their formidable collection, while the Senators added Preissing, an offensive-minded defenseman who should help assuage as·suage

the free-agency loss of Zdeno Chara. Chicago landed Havlat, a proven NHL NHL Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, see there  scorer who returned from shoulder surgery last season for an outstanding playoff run.

Given his skills and toughness, Bell should be a top candidate to play alongside NHL MVP (Multimedia Video Processor) A high-speed DSP chip from Texas Instruments, introduced in 1994. Officially introduced as the TMS320C80, it combines RISC technology with the functionality of four DSPs on one chip.  Joe Thornton Joseph Eric Thornton (born July 2 1979, in London, Ontario, Canada) is a professional ice hockey centre in the National Hockey League. He was drafted by, and played seven seasons for the Boston Bruins before being traded to his current club, the San Jose Sharks, where he wears the  and league goal-scoring champion Jonathan Cheechoo on San Jose's top line. The thought of joining the league's most potent tandem forced Bell, who plays all three forward positions, to chuckle with excitement.

``It was very tough to play against those guys last year, and I know how good they are,'' said Bell, the eighth overall pick in the 1998 draft.

``It's kind of mind-boggling to think that I could be on that line. If I play on that line, all the best. If not, I'm just going to try to help the team wherever I do play.''

Havlat, who has 235 points in 298 career games with Ottawa, had wavered on signing a long-term deal with the Senators, apparently preferring to test free agency next summer.

He reportedly signed a three-year deal with Chicago after the trade, giving a boost to the Blackhawks' foundering lineup.

Now, he can get to work: The Ottawa Senators released assistant general manager Peter Chiarelli from his obligations, allowing him to begin his new job as the Boston Bruins GM immediately.

The Bruins hired Chiarelli to replace interim GM Jeff Gorton last month, but the NHL ruled that he couldn't start until July15. That left Gorton running Boston's draft and signing high-profile free agents such as Zdeno Chara without being able to consult with the new boss.
