NHL NOTEBOOK: PENGUINS' PROSPECT MALKIN INJURED.

Evgeni Malkin Evgeni Vladimirovich Malkin (Russian: Евгений Влади́мирович Малкин,  was injured during his first NHL NHL Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, see there  exhibition game Wednesday night when he collided with Pittsburgh teammate John LeClair John Clark LeClair (born July 5, 1969 in St. Albans, Vermont) is an American professional ice hockey player. He most recently played left wing for the Pittsburgh Penguins of the NHL, who released him on December 14, 2006. The team said the Russian rookie center was taken to a hospital for further evaluation of an upper-body injury. Penguins general manager Ray Shero Ray Shero (born 28 July, 1962 in Saint Paul, Minnesota) (full name: Rejean Shero) is the current general manager of the Pittsburgh Penguins. He was hired on 25 May, 2006, replacing Craig Patrick.

Ray is the son of Philadelphia Flyers coach Fred Shero.
 said Malkin will be re-evaluated today in Pittsburgh, but could not be more specific about the injury.

``At this point anything else would be speculation,'' Shero said. ``We'll see how he feels (today). Frankly, I was happy he got up considering the way he went down.''

Malkin had just finished making a dazzling pass to LeClair when the veteran winger, after missing a great scoring chance, crashed into the boards behind the net and took out Malkin in the process. The Russian catapulted over LeClair and landed hard on the ice. Malkin, the No.2 overall pick behind Alexander Ovechkin Alexander Mikhaylovich Ovechkin (AmE IPA: [ˈæl.ɪgˌzæn.dɚ oˈvɛtʃ.kɪn]) (Russian:  in 2004, lay sprawled on the ice for three to four minutes.

Malkin got up and skated off the ice but was favoring his left arm.

Fedorov, a former Duck who spent most of his 16-year NHL career with Detroit, was hurt in the second period of a 4-1 victory over Buffalo on Tuesday.

Rangers' Rozsival undergoes knee surgery: Michal Rozsival, one of the Rangers' top defensemen last season, underwent surgery on his right knee and is expected to be sidelined for the rest of the preseason. Rozsival should be back in time for New York's season opener Oct. 5.

Chara hurt: Zdeno Chara scored his second goal in twonights midway through the first period before leaving because of an apparent left foot injury in the Boston Bruins' 3-1 preseason win over the host Montreal Canadiens. Chara, who left Ottawa as a free agent to sign a five-year, $37.5 million deal with Boston, was hurt when he blocked Sheldon Souray's slap shot during Montreal's 5-on-3 power play early in the first.

Ducks win: Dustin Penner scored two goals during a five-goal second period, and the Ducks defeated San Jose 6-3 in an exhibition game at the Pond in Anaheim. Stanislav Chistov, Teemu Selanne, Corey Perry and Todd Marchant added a goal apiece for the Ducks.
