NHL NOTEBOOK: DUCKS TRADE RUCCHIN, LECLERC.

The Mighty Ducks traded two longtime mainstays Tuesday, sending center Steve Rucchin to the New York Rangers The New York Rangers are a professional ice hockey team based in New York, New York, U.S.A. They are members of the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL).  and left wing Mike Leclerc to the Phoenix Coyotes.

Rucchin, 34, was dealt to the Rangers in exchange for left wing Trevor Gillies and a conditional pick in the 2007 NHL NHL Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, see there  draft.

The Ducks received another conditional pick in the same draft from the Coyotes in the deal for Leclerc, 28.

Taken by the Ducks with the second pick in the 1994 NHL supplemental draft The NHL Supplemental Draft was a draft that was established by the National Hockey League as an offshoot of the NHL Entry Draft between 1986 and 1994. The Supplemental Draft was used by teams to select collegiate ice hockey players who were not eligible for the standard Entry Draft. , Rucchin has played all of his 616 career NHL games for the Ducks.

Leclerc scored 54 goals and 78 assists in 291 career games for the Ducks in eight seasons. Anaheim drafted him in the third round in 1995.

 Dany Heatley to the Ottawa Senators for Marian Hossa, a blockbuster deal requested by Heatley less than two years after he was blamed for a wreck that killed a teammate.

The teams swapped high-scoring right wingers the same day Hossa agreed to a three-year, $18 million contract with the Senators, avoiding salary arbitration. Heatley, a restricted free agent, immediately signed a three-year deal with Ottawa.

The Thrashers also received defenseman Greg de Vries Greg de Vries (born on January 4, 1973 in Sundridge, Ontario, Canada) is a professional ice hockey player and a defenseman for the Nashville Predators.

At 6 feet 3 inches and 215 pounds, de Vries was signed by the Edmonton Oilers in 1994 as an undrafted free agent.

--Kings sign draft pick: The Kings signed right wing Lauri Tukonen, their first-round pick of the 2004 draft, to a multiyear, entry-level contract. Tukonen, an 18-year-old Finn, was the 11th overall pick of last year's draft. In 2004-05, he scored five goals and five assists in 43 games in the Finnish Elite League.

--Simpson signs with Blackhawks: The Chicago Blackhawks signed free-agent defenseman Todd Simpson to a one-year contract. Simpson, 32, played in Denmark last season for the Herning Blue Fox Herning Blue Fox is a Danish professional ice hockey team playing in the top Danish ice hockey league Oddset Ligaen. The team has won the Danish championship 13 times with the last title coming in 2007. , appearing in seven games.

--Capitals sign Sykora: Czech center Petr Sykora signed a one-year contract with the Washington Capitals. Sykora, 26, played briefly in the NHL with Nashville during the 1998-99 season and has spent the past six seasons in the Czech Republic Extraleague.
