) (NYSE:NHIPr) announced today that it will pay a fourth quarter common stock dividend of 74 cents per share Cents per share

The amount of a mutual fund's dividend or capital gains distributions that a shareholder will receive for each share owned.
 to common stockholders on Feb. 10.

The quarterly common stock dividend is payable to stockholders of record on Dec. 30.

This represents a cumulative 1997 dividend of $2.96 versus $2.84 in 1996 which is a 4.2% increase. This dividend will continue to be analyzed quarterly for increases. NHI's dividend policy is to pay dividends necessary to prevent NHI from having taxable income.

National Health Investors, Inc. specializes in the purchase and leaseback of healthcare real estate and in making mortgage loans to health care operators.
