NH computer upgrades required by December 31.


Nursing homes and home health agencies have until December 31 to upgrade their computer equipment to meet new requirements for accessing QI/OBQI and error and submission reports. The new end user minimum PC system requirements To be used efficiently, all computer software needs certain hardware components or other software resources to be present on a computer system. These pre-requisites are known as (computer) system requirements and are often used as a guideline as opposed to an absolute rule.  are:

* CPU CPU
 in full central processing unit

Principal component of a digital computer, composed of a control unit, an instruction-decoding unit, and an arithmetic-logic unit.
: Pentium III, 500 MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. It is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices, including channels, buses and the computer's internal clock. A one-megahertz clock (1 MHz) means some number of bits (16, 32, 64, etc.  

* Memory: 256 MB

* Operating system: Windows 2000 or XP

* Hard drive: 500 MB free space

* Browser: Internet Explorer v5.5 SP2

A Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services survey of nearly 15,000 nursing homes found that about 1/3 of nursing home computers are too old to support the new versions of reporting software. Many have not upgraded their computers since the 1998 MDS MDS,
