NH STATE LIBRARY SELECTS AUTO-GRAPHICS TO IMPLEMENT ULS.
Awarded on behalf of the New Hampshire Automated Information System (NHAIS), the contract calls for Auto-Graphics' Impact/ONLINE(TM) system to host a ULS database of some 20,000 unique titles from up to 200 participating libraries, with patron and librarian access via any standard Web browser.
In creating the ULS database, Auto-Graphics will accept and re-format records from a wide variety of local automation systems on a wide diversity of tape and disk media. After the initial database creation, individual libraries will add both bibliographic and item records on an ongoing basis.
Each participating library will have Impact/ONLINE/WebPAC(TM), an access module that allows patrons to search the database and initiate loan requests from in-library or remote systems equipped with a Web browser, according to William J. Kliss, chief operating officer at Auto-Graphics. Depending on librarian preferences, ILL requests may be made automatically by the patron with or without approval or by the library staff. Patrons will have the ability to access the status of their requests.
A browser-based ILL management application provides the resources for library administrators to establish a sequence of preferred lenders to receive requests for a loan, as well as providing status information and standard reports.
"ULS support is an often overlooked service of Auto-Graphics, and this is an opportunity to emphasize our full service business model that addresses more than just the large-scale databases of consortia and institutional catalogs," Kliss said.
Founded in 1950, Auto-Graphics provides Web-based information publishing and database resource sharing systems to the publishing and library communities. The company's Web site is located at http://www.auto-graphics.com.
