Innovative Sports Card Game Allows Players to Experience All

Aspects of Coaching and Managing an NFL Football Team

Wizards of the Coast Inc., a subsidiary of Hasbro Inc. (NYSE:HAS) and developer of game-based entertainment products, announced today that the NFL Showdown(TM) 2002 sports card game will be the first sports card game endorsed by the National Football League Coaches Association (NFLCA).

The National Football League (NFL) card game is the most recent addition to the Wizards of the Coast Showdown Sports line, which also includes the award-winning MLB(TM) Showdown sports card game and the forthcoming NBA(TM) Showdown sports card game.

"The NFL Showdown 2002 sports card game provides a realistic and authentic football experience," said Larry Kennan, executive director of the National Football League Coaches Association. "It's a great strategic game that really puts you on the sidelines as an NFL coach."

The NFL Showdown 2002 sports card game simulates an actual football game and allows players to act as owners and coaches of their own NFL teams by drafting and building teams, calling plays and developing overall game strategy. The NFL Showdown 2002 sports card game features the fun of trading card games, the collectability of traditional sports cards and the strategic elements of fantasy sports and actual sports games.

This innovative new game is the first sports card game to incorporate an electronic reader. The PlayGrid(TM) card reader is a handheld scanning device used specifically in the NFL Showdown 2002 sports card game that allows football fans of all ages to play a strategic and statistically accurate football game without sacrificing the fast-paced action of an actual NFL game. The PlayGrid device reads, decodes and stores information from cards that are swiped through its electronic scanner. The PlayGrid card reader will be available only in the NFL Showdown 2002 two-player Starter Set.

Wizards of the Coast is the worldwide market share leader in the trading card game and tabletop roleplaying game categories. Wizards of the Coast is a leading developer and publisher of game-based entertainment products, as well as the owner and operator of one of the nation's largest specialty game retail chains.
