NEXT-GENERATION DIGITAL COLOR COPIER SERIES FROM XEROX DELIVERS HIGHER IMAGE QUALITY AND LOWER COST

MajestiK Color Series Leverages Global Collaboration
 in Engineering and Manufacturing
ROCHESTER, N.Y., Aug. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Xerox Corporation (NYSE: XRX) today introduced a new series of digital color copiers designed to provide higher image quality at lower cost. These products are based on Xerox technology currently dominating the market in Japan, leveraging the company's global engineering and manufacturing capabilities.
Separately, Xerox also unveiled a high-speed office copier, the 5385, that can make copies in black or black plus another color.
The MajestiK Color Series consists of three full-color copier/ printers: The Xerox 5760, Xerox 5760 ADF and Xerox 5765, aimed at office and production environments that require the highest level of photographic image quality.
The MajestiK Color Series is the result of a joint development effort by Xerox Corporation and Fuji Xerox Co. Ltd. of Tokyo. The series is currently marketed by Fuji Xerox under the "A-Color" name in Japan where it has assumed a leading competitive market position since its introduction in 1992.
"Unlike most 'new' products, the MajestiK Color Series already has a proven track record," said Maurice Holmes, president, Xerox Office Document Systems Division. "We believe it will position Xerox as the emerging color market leader in the Western world, just as it has in Japan."
The MajestiK Series represents the company's most recent collaborative world-wide engineering and manufacturing partnership. Just as the MajestiK Color Series is manufactured in Japan and tailored to meet specific American market requirements, the Xerox 5100 copier -- introduced in 1991 -- is manufactured in the United States and has become the high-volume copier market leader in Japan.
 MAJESTIK HIGHLIGHTS
Each model in the MajestiK Color Series produces full-color, photographic-quality copies at six letter-size copies per minute with 400 by 400 dots per inch resolution and 256 gradations to support more than 16 million colors. Black-and-white copies are produced at a rate of 36 copies per minute, the fastest monochrome speed of any digital color copier currently on the market.
Each model will be capable of printing images from Apple Macintosh and IBM-compatible personal computers, beginning in the first half of 1994.
 COUNTERFEIT DETERRENT CAPABILITY
In response to government requests to discourage illegal copying of currency and other negotiable documents, the MajestiK Color Series incorporates a Counterfeit Deterrent Marking System. This system marks each copy and print with a digital code so that the source copier can be identified if necessary. The code is invisible under normal viewing conditions.
 XEROX 5385 HIGHLIGHT COLOR COPIER
Xerox also today introduced the 5385, a high-speed, highlight-color copier, which can print in black plus one color (either red, green, blue or brown) to create more effective documents for office and departmental environments.
The Xerox 5385 copier can produce 80 copies per minute in black or a solid color, and 40 copies per minute in black plus one additional highlight color.
The 5385 is a compact design that uses less space than many previous copiers in its class. It features a recirculating document handler (RDH) and a finisher that allow for simple, fast operation.
 LAUNCH PLANS AND PRICING
A multinational launch of the MajestiK Color Series, including 26 major Xerox districts in the United States, all of Canada, and more than 20 European markets takes place effective immediately. Remaining Xerox markets will open beginning in January 1994.
The U.S. commercial base list prices of the MajestiK Color Series are as follows: Xerox 5760 - $29,750; Xerox 5760 ADF - $31,580; Xerox 5765 - $31,750.
The 5385 departmental copier carries a manufacturer's suggest list price of $41,495, and order-taking begins next month.
As with all Xerox products, the MajestiK Color Series and the Xerox 5385 copier are covered under the Xerox Total Satisfaction Guarantee for three years from the date of delivery or up to five years if financed through Xerox.
