NEXOR Messageware X.400 MTA is industry's first fully certified product for DMS.

Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) technology is certified for

use in U.S. Defense Message System applications and is

available now.

NEXOR, an international electronic messaging and directory technology provider, today announced full availability of the first X.400 Message Transfer Agent The store and forward capability in a messaging system. See messaging system.

 (MTA) which is certified for use in Defense Message System applications.

The certification is for NEXOR Messageware MTAs deployed on Hewlett-Packard UNIX-based systems. The same MTA product is also available for other UNIX-based platforms, and certifications for these are expected later in 1997.

The Defense Message System will replace the aging AUTODIN (AUTOmatic DIgital Network) The worldwide communications network of the U.S. Defense Communications System.  messaging systems used by United States defense and intelligence communities worldwide. The Messageware MTA is the first X.400 MTA to be certified for use in the DMS, which was awarded in May 1995 and is to be functional by December 31, 1999. The Messageware MTA was the first MHS-88 X.400 product to be listed in the US GOSIP (Government Open Systems Interconnection Profile) A U.S. government mandate that after August 15, 1990, all new network procurements must comply with OSI. Testing is performed at the NIST, which maintains a database of OSI-compliant commercial products.  Register and can be purchased directly or through existing government contracts.

"Products that are not certified will not be hooked into the DMS network. It's that plain."

NEXOR currently provides the Messageware MTA to the DMS program through an agreement with CommPower (Communications and Power Engineering, Inc.), a California-based security and systems integration company. The MTA is incorporated into the DMS Mail List Agent (MLA), Multi-Function Interpreter (MFI), and Profiling User Agent (PUA). CommPower is the originator of the first two components, while Xerox Information Systems is responsible for the PUA.

NEXOR's Messageware products are used by the U.S. Navy and the General Services Administration The General Services Administration (GSA) was established by section 101 of the Federal Property and Administrative Services Act of 1949 (40 U.S.C.A. § 751).
