NEWTON P.S. MERRILL JOINS THE BANK OF NEW YORK

 NEW YORK, April 13 /PRNewswire/ -- The Bank of New York announced today that Newton P.S. Merrill has rejoined the Bank as Senior Executive Vice President and a member of the Senior Policy Committee after three years at Bank of Boston. Prior to that he was with The Bank of New York for 30 years.
 Mr. Merrill will oversee all of the Bank's Trust and Investment Management activities. The Trust and Investment Division offers a complete range of trust services in New York City and in full-service regional offices throughout the metropolitan area and in Florida through The Bank of New York Trust Company of Florida, N.A. This area includes private banking activities, providing financial services to high net-worth individuals. Institutional Investment provides portfolio management for corporations, endowments and other tax-exempt institutions.

 Newton Merrill earned an A.B. from Harvard College in 1961 and joined The Bank of New York in 1961 in the Investment Division. During his 30 years at the Bank, he held a number of major appointments. Most recently, prior to leaving for Bank of Boston, he was Senior Executive Vice President of U.S. Commercial Banking.
 Mr. Merrill and his wife will reside in New York City.
