NEWS VETERAN MARLOW RETIRING FROM CHANNEL 4 ANCHOR SLOT.

Major U.S. commercial broadcasting company. It was formed in 1926 by RCA Corp., General Electric Co. (GE), and Westinghouse and was the first U.S. company to operate a broadcast network.
 (Channel 4) anchor Jess Marlow Myron Jess Marlow is a retired Los Angeles television newsman. He hails from Salem, IL and was an anchor at KNTV-TV, KNBC-TV and KCBS-TV for over 40 years, beginning in the late 1950's.  announced Wednesday that he will retire from his slot as 6 p.m. news anchor at the end of April.

Marlow has worked in television broadcasting for 40 years, 25 of which have been at Channel 4.

Marlow will continue his association with the station, including its Sunday morning Sunday Morning may refer to:
  • "Sunday Morning (radio program)", a Canadian radio program formerly aired on CBC Radio One
  • CBS News Sunday Morning, a television news program on CBS in the United States
  • Sunday Morning (TBS TV series)
 public service show, ``Channel 4 News Conference,'' and will be involved in special reports and projects.

``My years here have been the best anyone in broadcast news could ever hope for,'' Marlow said in a statement issued by the station, ``and I wish only the best for what is clearly the best team in the business.''

Marlow, who said he plans to travel and catch up with family members during retirement, began his career in Rock Island, Ill.  for five years.

Marlow is a multi-award winner, having received local Emmys, Golden Mike Awards and the Columbia-DuPont Award. He was named the ``Best Local Television Anchor in Los Angeles'' in a 1985 Washington Journalism Review reader's poll.

Marlow originally joined Channel 4 in 1966 as a general assignment reporter and became the first 5 p.m. news anchor at the station. He has served as a host of ``Today'' and anchor of the weekend ``NBC Nightly News NBC Nightly News is the flagship evening news program for NBC News and broadcasts from the GE Building, Rockefeller Center in New York City. It has been known by this name since August 1, 1970. .''

In 1980, Marlow left Channel 4 and took the post as 5 p.m. anchor at KCBS KCBS Kansas City Barbecue Society
KCBS Korea Christian Book Service (now called KCB; Seoul, Korea)
KCBS Kerala Catholic Bible Society (Kerala, India) 
 (Channel 2) before returning to the Peacock six years later.

In 1986, he was Channel 4's senior editor and 5 p.m. news commentator. The following year he became the 5 p.m. co-anchor, and moved to the 6 p.m. newscast in 1992.

Marlow has done a lot of traveling during his career. In 1979, for instance, he was one of the first U.S. journalists to be admitted to the Republic of China. In 1985 he was the only local American television reporter permitted into Vietnam on the 10th anniversary of the war's end War's End is a journalistic comic about the Bosnian War written by Joe Sacco. It contains two stories; the first, Christmas with Karadzic, about tracking down and meeting the Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadžić, and the second, Soba . He documented the trip in a 10-part award-winning series.

He also has traveled to the former Soviet Union, Cuba and Central America.

``Jess is a broadcast legend,'' said Carole Black, Channel 4's president and general manager. ``It's hard to express how strongly we feel about him because he's one of the most-respected and admired journalists who has ever been in the business.''
