NEWS REAL\Stepping into the picture\Sets from popular films, TV shows re-created for academy exhibit.

The Flintstones have left Bedrock for tonier digs in Beverly Hills Beverly Hills, city (1990 pop. 31,971), Los Angeles co., S Calif., completely surrounded by the city of Los Angeles; inc. 1914. The largely residential city is home to many motion-picture and television personalities. .

Fred and Wilma's living room has been relocated to the Fourth Floor Gallery of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, 8949 Wilshire Blvd.

Visitors also can see the nightclub from "The Mask," a laboratory from "Addams Family Addams Family

"Each of the rooms we've re-created you can really walk into," said Ellen Harrington, special events and exhibitions coordinator. "When you sit in the Flintstones' living room, you'll really feel you're in that environment. You can touch it. That's the great thing about this exhibit. Most people don't get to go on movie sets."

The exhibition is being presented in collaboration with the Set Decorators' Society of America, a nonprofit professional group, which formed in 1993 and is housed in the Pacific Design Center.

Gallery hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Friday and from noon to 6 p.m. weekends. Admission is free. For information, call (310) 278-5673.

 place for those characters to be living and doing their thing," Harrington said.

The academy holds six to eight exhibitions a year that often focus on the behind-the-scenes craftsmen and artisans involved in movie making.

Robert Zilliox, president of the Set Decorators' Society, said that he hopes visitors to the exhibit take away a better sense of the role of the set decorator who works with the production designer, art director, among others, to create the surroundings for the characters in a movie or TV show.
