... and don't call her `Shirley'

He's a cutup, but his cutout doesn't have Emmy Awards show officials laughing.

Comedian Marty Ingels said Saturday that he planned to attend tonight's ceremonies at Los Angeles' Shrine Auditorium with a life-sized, cardboard cutout of his wife, actress Shirley Jones.

Jones is nominated for an Emmy for her supporting role in the TV film ``Hidden Places,'' but is shooting a TV series in Australia so won't be able to attend.

Ingels said show officials told him no dice: The cutout would disrupt the prime-time ceremony.

``It's a beautiful, color, 5-foot-5 cutout of my wife, and I was told I'd be stopped at the door,'' Ingels said in a phone interview from his Encino home.

Officials from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences could not be reached Saturday for comment.

Although Emmy officials seem to have put the kibosh on his stunt, Ingels said he plans to parade with his cutout on the Red Carpet anyway. ``I'm going with two friends ... and they're going to need the Green Berets to keep me out.''
