The motion picture academy unveiled two poster designs Thursday for the 78th annual Academy Awards, for the first time ever using archival photographs as the basis for the concept.

The posters, ``Black Tuxedo'' and ``White Gloves,'' designed by San Diego San Diego (săn dēā`gō), city (1990 pop. 1,110,549), seat of San Diego co., S Calif., on San Diego Bay; inc. 1850. San Diego includes the unincorporated communities of La Jolla and Spring Valley. Coronado is across the bay.  graphic designer Joan Maloney, are drawn from actual photos of past winners - the academy is not saying who.

Maloney's designs will be seen on posters, print ads, banners and billboards leading up to the March 5 ceremony. Posters are available for purchase through the academy's Web site, photos.oscars.org, or by phone at (800) 554-1814.

Clint to get Lifetime Achievement Award

It seemed Clint Eastwood would be sitting out this awards season, but it turns out he will collect a prestigious honor after all.

The Directors Guild of America has announced that he will receive its Lifetime Achievement Award at the 58th annual DGA DGA Directors Guild of America (movie directors union)

 Awards on Jan. 28.

Eastwood, with 25 films in his directing credits, won the guild's top prize last year for ``Million Dollar Baby,'' which went on to win Oscars for best picture and directing.

These days, he's toiling away on his two Iwo Jima Iwo Jima (ē`wō jē`mə, ē`wô), Jap. Io-jima, volcanic island, c.8 sq mi (21 sq km), W Pacific, largest and most important of the Volcano Islands. Mt.  films, ``Flags of Our Fathers,'' which tells the American view of the World War II battle, and ``Lamps Before the Wind,'' which takes the Japanese vantage point.
