The judge also gave the Motley Crue drummer three years' probation and ordered various conditions that could bring three more years prison time if violated.

Malibu court Judge Lawrence J. Mira said the judicial system should have been tougher sooner. He listed incidents dating back to 1983 in which Lee was given no more than probation.

``What I see here is a very clear - disturbing in my judgment - pattern of conduct in which otherwise resolvable issues are handled with violence,'' Mira said.

Lee, 35, listened quietly, wearing a black suit and white dress shirt. A colorful neck tattoo and spiky hair were the only hint of his heavy metal background.

Anderson, a former star of the ``Baywatch'' TV series, was not in court. She made a plea through her lawyer that her estranged es·trange

Michigan teen wins geography contest

Petko Peev became the 1998 winner of the National Geography Bee on Wednesday, declaring ``persistence pays off.'' That, and listening closely to a question about Europe.

Peev, 13, a Bulgarian-born resident of Grand Rapids, Mich., correctly answered that Germany is the European Union's most populous country, with more than 80 million people.

That enabled Peev, pronounced ``Pev,'' to defeat J.B. Kizer of Portsmouth, Ohio, in the championship round. It was the third time Peev represented Michigan in the national finals.

Kizer answered ``Russia'' to the European Union European Union (EU), name given since the ratification (Nov., 1993) of the Treaty of European Union, or Maastricht Treaty, to the

For his accomplishment, Peev receives a $25,000 scholarship from the society and a trip to Hong Kong from Sylvan Learning Centers, the sole corporate sponsor.

Channing ending sexless marriage

If diamonds are a girl's best friend, Carol Channing might consider her husband a cubic zirconium zirconium (zərkō`nēəm), metallic chemical element; symbol Zr; at. no. 40; at. wt. 91.22; m.p. about 1,852°C;; b.p. 4,377°C;; sp. gr. 6.5 at 20°C;; valence +2, +3, or +4. .

The 77-year-old actress filed for divorce Tuesday from Charles Lowe, claiming that he had sex with her only twice during their 41-year marriage.

``That is all - and it wasn't very satisfactory,'' she said Wednesday in New York New York, state, United States

Channing said that shortly after she and Lowe, now 86, wed in 1956, he informed her that he was impotent. She also said Lowe regularly humiliated hu·mil·i·ate

``It doesn't matter to me that I didn't have relations. That's incidental. The important thing is my freedom,'' Channing said.

A recent three-year tour of ``Hello Dolly'' netted the actress $5 million, she said, but her accountants told her she had only $2 million in her account.

Lowe lived on her earnings and controlled the money as her manager and head of a production company, she said. Channing said she never dared ask him about money.

``It created such an uproar and such a reaction that it was hard to go on and do the next show,'' the wide-eyed, smiling actress said.

Lowe, who lives in the Los Angeles area, could not be located for comment Wednesday. Channing filed her divorce petition in Los Angeles, where the couple had been living.

The couple separated Dec. 10 and Channing moved in with her son from a previous marriage.
