was forced to sit out the second half of a Metropolitan Opera benefit Sunday after he became dizzy while performing the first-act finale, Met general manager Joseph Volpe said.

Pavarotti ``experienced an episode of light-headedness'' while singing a trio from Verdi's ``Luisa Miller'' with soprano June Anderson and baritone Dwayne Croft, Volpe told the audience as the second half of the concert began.

``He feels he can continue,'' Volpe said. ``I will not allow it. He has to find out what caused it.''

Pavarotti's voice had faded a bit during ``Luisa Miller,'' but he appeared to have regained his strength by the end of the piece.

Pavarotti's manager said a sudden spike in the singer's blood pressure was responsible for the dizzy spell, but he recovered quickly.

The 62-year-old Pavarotti was examined by the Met's doctor and returned to his Manhattan apartment after being advised not to continue. His manager said the tenor is looking forward hopefully singing on Thursday.

Diana memorial fund designs seal of approval

In a bid to prevent people from profiting off Princess Diana's name, her memorial fund on Sunday unveiled a distinctive logo that will be attached to all official Diana memorabilia.

Diana's sons William, 15, and Harry, 13, have approved the design, which is her own signature in purple, one of her favorite colors, over the words ``Princess of Wales Noun 1.  Memorial Fund.''

``The trustees wanted a logo that would reflect the nature of the fund, which was set up as a spontaneous memorial'' after Diana's death in a Paris car crash on Aug. 31, a fund spokesman said.

Within days of the tragedy, a multimillion-dollar industry in unauthorized memorabilia sprung up, including T-shirts, plates, mugs and dolls. Many of the sellers have refused to give any of the proceeds to Diana's fund.

Produced by London design consultants Spencer Landor, the logo will be used on all products authorized by the Princess of Wales Memorial Fund, which raises money for Diana's favorite causes.

``It not only reflects the princess's personality, but also accurately fits the brief to keep it simple and contemporary, yet timeless,'' said creative partner John Spencer.
