The former Sarah Ferguson was hired Tuesday as a London-based correspondent for NBC's morning show. She'll contribute human-interest stories, features and interviews about once a month, the network said.

The duchess, ex-wife of Prince Andrew, has some experience: She was host of a British talk show that ran for 10 episodes.

``It was the first time I really felt comfortable with my job,'' she said in a telephone interview. ``I want to learn and I want to grow, and I think television is a great place for me.''

In the first episode of the show, Fergie, as she is popularly known in Britain, sat on a couch and discussed life's crises with guests who included a hit-and-run driver who confessed 20 years after the crime and a woman raped by a serial killer.

She may need a few more meetings with Zucker about story ideas. The duchess said she is interested in reporting about how children have coped with the war in Kosovo, something Zucker said he would like to see.

But Fergie, who's been a commercial spokeswoman for Weight Watchers in the United States, also said she'd like to report on health and weight issues.
