NEWS LITE : HOORAY FOR HOLLYWOOD; ACADEMY GETTING NEW HOME.

Work began Thursday on one of Hollywood's biggest productions: a $385 million entertainment complex next door to Mann's Chinese Theatre Chinese theatre has a long and complex history. Today it is often called Chinese opera although this normally refers specifically to the popular form known as Beijing Opera; there have been many other forms of theatre in China. .

The block-long development is intended to create a posh, permanent home for the Academy Awards, starting in 2001, and to restore luster to Hollywood Boulevard For uses other than the original street, see Hollywood Boulevard (disambiguation).
Hollywood Boulevard is a boulevard in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, United States, beginning at Sunset Boulevard in the east and running northwest to Vermont Avenue, where it straightens out

``We're finally going to bring Hollywood back to Hollywood,'' composer Quincy Jones, who plans to open a club, said at the groundbreaking ceremony. ``We would like to ensure that the greatness of Hollywood will pass on to the next generation.''

With little or no success, city boosters previously have predicted a revival of the neighborhood for years. This project stands out, however, in scope and official support. The city committed $90 million for a parking lot and 3,300-seat Academy Award theater.

Theaters for movies and plays, new shops, restaurants and clubs are planned to make tourists feel comfortable in the now-seedy area. Planners point to the revitalization of New York New York, state, United States

A call seeking comment from Lewinsky was not immediately returned by her spokeswoman, Judy Smith.

The trade paper Daily Variety, citing unidentified sources, reported Thursday that Murdoch's News Corp. had offered Lewinsky the rich deal for a multimedia tell-all package.

Included would be an interview conducted by Fox's entertainment division, rather than its news division, and a book deal with News Corp.'s HarperCollins publishing house, Variety said.

The 49-year-old rocker recalled his lean years while on the witness stand in a London courtroom Thursday as he tried to block a British company from putting out a collection of unreleased songs from 1972.

The hearing is expected to continue into next week.
