NEWS LITE : HEFNER'S LIFE STORY TO BE FEATURE FILM.

Playboy is in vogue again.

Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment's Brian Grazer and Ron Howard will produce a biographical motion picture about Hugh Hefner Hugh Marston Hefner (born April 9, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois), also referred to colloquially as Hef,[1] is the founder, editor-in-chief, and Chief Creative Officer of Playboy Enterprises[2]. He is the majority owner of Playboy Enterprise Inc. , the Playboy magazine founder and seminal force behind the sexual revolution.

``My life has been a ball, and it has had its real conflicts along the way,'' Hefner told Daily Variety in an interview published Friday. ``One of the things that has been agreed upon Adj. 1. agreed upon - constituted or contracted by stipulation or agreement; "stipulatory obligations"

, when we finalized things with Brian and Universal the other day, was that it should be true to the character.''

A Hefner movie is fitting with the current retro craze sweeping the country.

``He's cool again,'' Grazer said. ``His lifestyle and how he handles his life is very upfront, and not excessive in a way that is hurting anyone. He's not a gangster who's hurting anyone.''

Hefner said he sold the rights to his tale because ``the time seems right.''

``The magazine is a hot property, and I am much in the media,'' he said.

Said a McCartney source: ``Paul accepts that this sort of thing happens, but he is saddened by it. What man would want to see the memory of his beloved wife cheapened like this? Let's just say Paul won't be watching. And if the film gets anything badly wrong, they can be sure Paul will not remain silent.''

The show is set to play next year but has no firm air-date.

Dennehy admits he never saw war

Tony-winning actor Brian Dennehy has come clean on his war record. He has none. ``I lied about serving in Vietnam and I'm sorry,'' he told Globe magazine. His fib was exposed in G.B. Burkett's ``Stolen Valor valor

Follow the Money: Citizen catches trio living high on the hog

Charlie Kambarn wanted to find out what his town leaders did during an official trip to Florida, so he spent $1,300 of his own money following the paper trail.

As a result of what he found, the mayor of Chincoteague, Va., was suspended, the town manager resigned and the police chief was fired.

The three men, it turned out, had skipped most of a hurricane conference in Florida and run up big bar and restaurant tabs at taxpayer expense.

``No one thought in their wildest dreams I would get this far,'' said Kambarn, whose Freedom of Information Act request documented the men's spending spree Noun 1. spending spree - a brief period of extravagant spending

of about $3,000. ``It will be a long time before anyone eats and drinks big on the town of Chincoteague.''

The officials went to Orlando for the conference in March but later acknowledged playing hooky. Mayor Harry S. Thornton, Town Manager T. Stewart Baker Stewart Abercrombie Baker (born July 17, 1947) is the Assistant Secretary for Policy for the United States Department of Homeland Security (as of 2006).[1][2]  and Police Chief Willis Dize drove a rental car six hours south to Key West to visit a friend.

Rumors about their side trip spread when they returned to Chincoteague, a town of 3,500.

That's when Kambarn, who runs a boat dealership and real estate business, decided to get to the bottom of things.

In May, Kambarn filed a request to make public the officials' expense account reports. Town officials charged Kambarn $1,300 for photocopies. The Town Council has since voted to refund the money.

The delegation's credit card receipts included a $2,075 hotel bill from Orlando, including $365 for ``lobby bar/pool service''; $320 for one dinner; $420 for a rental car that traveled 831 miles in six days; and $54.31 for a lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe Hard Rock Cafe is a chain of casual dining restaurants. It was founded in 1971 by Isaac Tigrett and Peter Morton, and their first Hard Rock Cafe opened near Hyde Park Corner in London, in a former Rolls Royce car dealerships showroom close to Hyde Park, where in 1979 they began to  in Key West.

Soon after news of the spending spread, Baker resigned, the Town Council fired Dize and a judge suspended Thornton pending further review of the case. Lawyers for Thornton and Baker declined to comment.

Kuralt's widow withdraws gift

Charles Kuralt's widow has backed out of plans to give Minnesota Public Radio Minnesota Public Radio (MPR) is a regional public radio network based in the U.S. state of Minnesota that has been broadcasting since 1967. The network includes more than 50 FM transmitters ranging from low-power translators in small and hard-to-reach areas up to full-power  two stations that belonged to her husband.

MPR (MultiProtocol Router) Software from Novell that provides router capabilities for its NetWare servers. It supports IPX, IP, AppleTalk and OSI protocols as well as all the major LANs and WANs.  is trying to sort out why Suzanna Kuralt instead sold the Ely stations to a group of investors for an undisclosed amount.

Earlier this week, Suzanna Kuralt had prepared a statement saying the gift of the stations to MPR would fulfill her husband's goal of bringing a top station to Ely, a town on the edge of the wilderness that he discovered when he canoed in the area in the 1960s.

The Kuralt estate's attorney refused to comment on Friday.

Suzanna Kuralt, however, did pledge $5,000 to the network in appreciation of its ``broadcasting excellence.''
