NEWS LITE : GOLDBLUM THINKS THE WORLD OF DERN.

What actor has starred in three of the top money-making movies of the '90s? The answer is lanky Pittsburgh-born Jeff Goldblum, who was in the mega-bucks Nos. 1 and 2, ``Independence Day'' and ``Jurassic Park,'' and is also in the current ``The Lost World: Jurassic Park,'' expected to be No. 3 before too long.

Goldblum, 44, is no longer engaged to actress Laura Dern, his co-star in ``Jurassic Park.'' ``The truth is I respect her terrifically,'' he says. ``I adore her as a person. We're luckily in each others' lives very closely, not traditionally together right now . . . but, yeah, I'm trying to keep all of that aggressively undisplayed.''

Disney, `Hercules' taking on New York

Disney strongman Michael Eisner and New York City heavyweight Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani will join Olympic decathlon winners, jugglers, and a Fifth Avenue parade as the Big Apple hosts big hoopla this weekend as Disney's animated ``Hercules'' premieres.

The film will open June 27 for the rest of us, and Saturday for Big Applers. The day starts with jugglers and dancers entertaining crowds before the film opens in the restored New Amsterdam New Amsterdam, Dutch settlement at the mouth of the Hudson River and on the southern end of Manhattan island; est. 1624. It was the capital of the colony of New Netherland from 1626 to 1664, when it was captured by the British and renamed New York. Theatre on 42nd Street. Once the film ends, the streets will be electrified at 9:15 p.m. as ``The Hercules Electrical Parade'' begins its two-mile route from 42nd up Fifth Avenue to 66th Street.

On Sunday, a ``Hercules Breakfast With the Champions'' (people make money for naming events like this) at the Essex House Hotel will bring together and honor five U.S. Olympic gold medal decathlon winners: Bob Mathias, Milt Campbell, Bill Toomey, Bruce Jenner and Dan O'Brien.

``Hercules,'' the 35th full-length animated feature from Walt Disney Studios, features the voices of Danny DeVito, Tate Donovan, Matt Frewer, Bobcat Goldthwait, Paul Shaffer, Rip Torn, James Woods and Charlton Heston.

Rolling Stone back with pregnant Hall

A few months ago, Mick Jagger and his wife, Jerry Hall, were on the outs. She was tired of his acting like a rolling stone. Now the couple are back together, and she's having his baby. The Daily Mirror in London said Hall was nearly three months' pregnant. Jagger's spokesman said he ``had no information'' about the reports.

Jagger, 53, and Hall, nearly 41, have three children, ages 4 to 13. They separated late last year, and Hall threatened to divorce the Rolling Stones singer because of his infidelities. He returned to the family home in October, pledging to be faithful to his Texan-born wife. Hall said at the time that she longed for another baby.

Golfer gets briefing in Oval Office

President Clinton, who hurt his knee at Greg Norman's house, gave the golfer an update on his recovery during an Oval Office visit Monday.

``I'm sure they talked golf and knee,'' spokesman Mike McCurry said.

Clinton ruptured a tendon in his right knee during a late-night spill at Norman's Florida estate in March. The president credited the golfer with preventing further damage by breaking his fall.

In town for two golf tournaments, Norman arranged a family tour through the White House visitors office. When the president got wind of it, he invited the group to the Oval Office.

``Apparently, the president was demonstrating for Mr. Norman how well he was recuperating, and no doubt Mr. Norman was pleased to hear that,'' McCurry said.

Norman finished third Sunday in the Kemper Open at Potomac, Md. The U.S. Open will be played in the same Washington suburb this week.

McCurry said rookie sensation Tiger Woods, who declined an invitation to appear with Clinton after his Masters victory, has no plans to visit the president during U.S. Open week.

``That's fine with us,'' McCurry said, rejecting suggestions that the star has snubbed Clinton. ``This guy's got a lot on his mind.''

Mayor talks out barricaded man over beers

Providence, R.I., Mayor Vincent Cianci Jr. was on his way to a wedding, ready to socialize with fellow guests at the reception.

He ended up having a beer and a heart-to-heart talk with a man who had barricaded himself inside a condominium and threatened to shoot anyone who came near.

Cianci, whose flamboyance has earned him a regular spot on Don Imus' radio show, often goes to the scenes of crimes and fires. He changed his plans Saturday when he heard of the standoff on the police radio in his car.

At the scene, Cianci called the distraught man, who suggested that the mayor come upstairs. After an hour of conversation - and one beer each - they came out, and Cianci accompanied the man to a hospital.

``He was reaching out for help,'' Cianci said. ``He didn't want to hurt anyone, least of all me. I was the symbol of authority, the symbol who could help. . . . We got to be pretty good friends.''

Cianci said he drew on his own experiences to help the 26-year-old man with ``family-related'' problems.
