NEWS LITE : COLD SNAPS SHORTS DAYS AT POST OFFICE.

It was fun while it lasted, but two Bergenfield, N.J., postal workers A postal worker is one who works for a post office, such as a mail carrier. Steve Nason and Ron Filera had a 2-year-old bet to see who could last the longest wearing shorts while delivering mail through winter.

But on Tuesday, the two letter carriers ceremonially changed into long pants before heading out to cover their routes.

The bet ended at the urging of their boss, Postmaster postmaster - The electronic mail contact and maintenance person at a site connected to the Internet or UUCPNET. Often, but not always, the same as the admin. The Internet standard for electronic mail (RFC 822) requires each machine to have a "postmaster" address; usually it is  Gregory D'Alessio, who wanted them to call off their competition before another year's bitter cold arrives.

The bet started before winter 1994, and the original prize was a case of beer. Both men made it through the winter in their summer uniform shorts, and the bet continued through 1995.

By that time, Nason and Filera had become minor celebrities, appearing on national talk shows and morning television. They also raised nearly $10,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association The Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) is an organization founded in 1950 which combats muscular dystrophy and diseases of the nervous system and muscular system in general by funding research, providing medical and community services, and educating health professionals .

``I have no expectations about becoming a big `movie star.' I just want to continue working in all areas of the entertainment business and continue to be involved with high-quality projects,'' she said.
