Money doesn't make the man

In findings that should cheer up men who aren't rich and anybody who loves a sappy romance story, it turns out the Beatles were right: Guys, money can't buy you love.

When college women chose among hypothetical men to date or marry, the attractiveness of big bucks ranked behind things like honesty, good looks and making time for family life.

The theory says men look for physical attractiveness more than women do, while women seek financial resources in a mate.

The new finding emphasizes that while women may find financial resources more important than men do, that's not the top draw, Cunningham said. Clinton cryptic on Kemp choice

Basking in the glories of the Grand Tetons, President Clinton kept his distance from the political arena Sunday.

He went to church with his family and horseback riding with his daughter, Chelsea.

Though he had been quoted by the San Diego Union as saying that Jack Kemp's selection as Bob Dole's running mate had ``shocked'' him, he clearly did not want to make any further public comment on the GOP ticket.

Asked whether the president was shocked, White House deputy press secretary Mary Ellen Glynn said, ``I have no knowledge of that.''

Responding to press reports quoting some Democratic campaign officials, she added that Clinton does not consider Kemp an extremist. Asked if the president liked Kemp, she said, ``Yes, absolutely.''

Newsman won't forgo tax break

Sam Donaldson wants taxpayers to pay to get rid of predators on his New Mexico sheep ranch.

The ABC News correspondent says he's entitled to the handout from the federal Animal Damage Control office.

One wildlife activist thinks that's wrong.

``He's a millionaire, and millionaires shouldn't be getting taxpayer-funded predator control,'' said Pat Wolff.

Donaldson pays about a dollar an acre to lease 2,360 acres of grazing land from the state for his hundreds of sheep. Last year he lost 80 lambs to predators such as coyotes.

``The government helps ranchers and farmers and businesses of all kinds,'' Donaldson said Friday. ``If it's in existence and I am eligible to use it, I'll use it.''
