NEWS & NOTES : BOOST FROM SINBAD NOT ENOUGH TO PREVENT `VIBE' CANCELLATION.

Byline: Daily News Wire Services

Less than three months after the lights were turned out on ``The Keenen Ivory Wayans Keenen Ivory Wayans (born June 8, 1958 in New York City, New York) is an American actor, comedian, director and writer best known as the host and creator of the FOX sketch comedy series In Living Color  Show,'' the plug has been pulled on late-night contender ``Vibe.'' Like the late-night ``Keenen,'' ``Vibe'' has been dogged by low national ratings since its debut in August. Though the show found new life when Sinbad replaced original host Chris Spencer in October, ``Vibe'' couldn't generate enough interest. Originals and reruns of ``Vibe'' will continue airing through Sept. 11. The announcement of ``Vibe's'' cancellation Monday coincided with the debut of late-night contender ``The Magic Hour.'' ``Vibe's'' departure, coupled with the cancellation of ``Keenen,'' now leaves the board clear for ``Magic.''

Remaking finale: The producers of NBC's ``3rd Rock From the Sun'' have decided to remake their already-aired May 18 season finale, which featured the late Phil Hartman in a key guest role. The cliffhanger cliff·hang·er

No actor has been chosen for the role, and the substitute episode will not be produced until August. It will air in September, before the season premiere.

``It will take just a day to do those scenes over,'' Morrison said, ``but it's going to be a tough one, because how do you replace Phil?''

As for ``NewsRadio,'' producers still are giving thought as to how they will deal with the Hartman tragedy.

`Dr. Quinn' still out: Jane Seymour isn't holding out any hope that her series, ``Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman is multi-Emmy Award winning western/dramatic television series in the United States, created by Beth Sullivan. ``It's gone,'' Seymour said backstage during CBS' telecast of the annual Tony Awards.

Seymour, a presenter during the show, said a Web site devoted to the program gets 10,000 notes a day from eager fans.

As for CBS' offer of doing a two-hour movie to wrap up the series, Seymour said there's ``nothing definite yet.''

`Mad' about New York: NBC's multimillion-dollar series ``Mad About You'' will tape two episodes in Gotham late this summer.

The normally Los Angeles-based series, about a New York couple, will do so to accommodate co-star Helen Hunt, who soon is opening in a stage production of ``Twelfth Night'' at New York's Lincoln Center.
