NEWS & NOTES : `ELLEN' CHANGES TIME SLOTS IN ABC NETWORK'S CHESS GAME.

``Life's Work Life's Work is a sitcom that aired from 1996 to 1997 on the American Broadcasting Company channel that starred Lisa Ann Walter as Lisa Ann Minardi Hunter, the assistant district attorney who had a husband named Kevin Hunter ,'' which now airs in the time slot, will have completed its run of original episodes for the season as of Feb. 25.

Additionally, the network is mulling plans to move ``Step by Step'' into ``Clueless' '' 9:30 p.m. Friday half-hour starting March 7, sources reported Thursday. Network execs are also looking at moving ``Spy Games'' into the 8 p.m. Monday slot, taking over for ``Dangerous Minds'' starting March 3.

 when ABC pulled her sitcom off the schedule without notifying her ahead of time, sources say. ABC yanked the show to debut Arsenio Hall's new sitcom in ``Ellen's'' 9:30 p.m. Wednesday slot.

The Hall show, which doesn't yet have a title, will be moved to another slot if it performs well, ABC said.

In its temporary berth for six weeks, ``Ellen'' will include a mix of new episodes and reruns.

ABC has 22 episodes of ``Step by Step'' that have yet to be aired this season. Bronson Pinchot has been added to the cast of ``Step by Step'' in its sixth season, playing a French hairdresser who moves to town to open a business with cast regular Suzanne Somers.

``Spy Games,'' formerly known as ``Cloak and Dagger Cloak and dagger is a term sometimes used to refer to situations involving espionage, mystery, or even assassination. The phrase dates in English from the early 19th century. It is a translation of French de cape et d'epee and Spanish comedia de capa y espada. ,'' has a 13-episode order.

Pilots fly: Fox has placed pilot or episode orders for projects on aliens, a female lawyer, Irish warriors and even one about a TV series, sources say.

At least four drama pilots given the go-ahead are from 20th Century Fox Television.

Among those is a pilot order for ``Automatic Avenue,'' described as a behind-the-scenes look at a TV series from the lead actor's point of view.

Also from 20th Century Fox TV is a 13-episode order for ``The Visitor,'' from ``ID4'' creators Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin, about an alien who comes to Earth.

20th Century Fox TV has logged another 13-episode order for David Kelley's next drama series, which centers on a single woman who is an attorney.

Also from 20th Century Fox TV is a pilot order for ``The Notorious,'' which is described as a comic-book film-noir tale of good vs. evil focusing on a young man out to avenge his father's death.

``Roar,'' a 13-episode order, is a mythic action-adventure series about the last warrior tribes of Ireland.

``The Door'' is also a 13-episode order about a teen crisis center.
