NEWHALL WATER DISPUTE REVISITED BOARD EXPECTED TO RESCIND CHALLENGE OF LOCAL SUPPLIES.Byline: Susan Abram Staff Writer NEWHALL - The board of the Newhall County Water District is expected tonight to discuss rescinding a controversial year-old resolution that challenged the estimated water supply levels in Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country, . Board President Maria Gutzeit said Wednesday she had the item placed on tonight's agenda after meeting with the district's consultant, Donald McIntyre This article is about the operatic bass-baritone. After the resolution passed, an independent firm hired by the Newhall district found that contrary to the resolution, there was sufficient water supply available to meet projected demands for the next 20 years, pending future acquisitions of water. Consultants from Stetson Engineers Inc. were hired by the water district's board for more than $30,000 to complete the report for the agency. Satisfied that most of their questions about water supply had been answered, the board then adopted the Stetson report. McIntyre ``looked at the situation and said we're not following that resolution anymore, we're relying on the Stetson report,'' Gutzeit said. ``It's confusing con·fuse v. con·fused, con·fus·ing, con·fus·es v.tr. 1. a. To cause to be unable to think with clarity or act with intelligence or understanding; throw off. b. to have two tabulations of water supply as public policy for our district.'' Board member Lynne Plambeck said she found the idea of rescinding the initial resolution discouraging dis·cour·age tr.v. dis·cour·aged, dis·cour·ag·ing, dis·cour·ag·es 1. The decision to pass the resolution last year had split the district board, with three members voting for the resolution and two dissenting dis·sent intr.v. dis·sent·ed, dis·sent·ing, dis·sents 1. Gutzeit, who then voted for the resolution, said she is still concerned about overestimated water supply levels, but believes the Stetson report is reliable. ``The Stetson report was very clear that if in the next 10 years, if we don't acquire water, we will have problems,'' Gutzeit said. ``Stetson was very clear on that, and that was one of the main reasons why I was able to support it.''
