NEWHALL TO RING IN THE HOLIDAY SPIRIT THIS WEEK.

Holiday spirits will be high in Olde Town Newhall this week, as carolers, street performers and even St. Nick kick off the four-day Festival of Holidays, which culminates Saturday with a nativity procession.

, and Bridgette Gonzales, a 20-year-old student at College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation. .

``David volunteered,'' said Jill Klajic, organizer of the holiday celebration. ``Not too many boys his age would do this kind of thing. I found Bridgette as I was flipping through the channels and saw a pretty girl singing on a public access program. I called the station to find out who she was and she was flattered and willing to do it for us.''

Rabbi Choni Marozov of Congregation Chabad will give a blessing at 7 p.m. Wednesday, opening the festival along San Fernando Road San Fernando Road is a major street in the city and county of Los Angeles. It starts off in Castaic as The Old Road, passing through Santa Clarita and the Newhall Pass, where upon its intersection with Sierra Highway near the junction of the Golden State (I-5) and the , between Lyons and Newhall avenues.

Members from 20 local congregations, decked out in holiday garb, will sing carols each night, while merchants will provide hot cider and treats for shoppers. Featured acts will perform on a stage set up at Market Street and San Fernando Road, and Santa Claus Santa Claus: see Nicholas, Saint.

 is scheduled to visit Thursday and Friday nights.

Saturday's celebration will begin with the nativity processional at 6 p.m., followed by a holiday party at the Santa Clarita Community Center, 24406 San Fernando Road. Skip Newhall, the great-great-grandson of the city's founder, Henry Mayo Newhall, will be the master of ceremonies.

``Every child that attends the party will get a gift,'' Klajic said. ``The Plaza Theater is donating tickets and fast-food restaurants have donated gift certificates, so everyone should get something. People have been very generous.''

The second annual Festival of Holidays will kick off at 7 p.m. Wednesday and run through Saturday evening in Olde Town Newhall, on San Fernando Road between Lyons and Newhall avenues. Following is a schedule of events and performances.
