SANTA CLARITA - A Newhall man was ordered Thursday to stand trial on assault charges stemming from a gang fight last month at the Valencia Town Center, sheriff's officials said.

Ruben Delgado, 19, was scheduled to return to court Nov. 16 for arraignment in San Fernando Superior Court on two felony counts of assault.

Delgado and a 17-year-old were arrested Oct. 20, accused of beating and stabbing two men with a tool, and hitting them with a miniature baseball bat, deputies said. Officials believe the two are gang members.

One of the victims walked to the nearby sheriff's station to report the attack; the other was not immediately located. The two suspects, however, were arrested after they were seen - with blood on themselves - entering a gas station restroom.

The second suspect, who was not identified because he is a minor, faces a hearing in Sylmar Juvenile Court.
