VALENCIA - Locally based Princess Cruises Princess Cruises is an American cruise line, based out of Santa Clarita, California, that operates cruise ships also shares the same building with Cunard Line headquarters. It is one of the many cruise lines operated by the Carnival Corporation.  took delivery this week of its newest vessel, the Island Princess
A former Princess Cruises vessel was also known as Island Princess. This vessel now operates as Discovery


The Island Princess is a cruise ship for the Princess Cruises line. She is the sister ship to the Coral Princess.

The 92,000-ton ship was delivered to the company at the Chantiers de l'Atlantique Chantiers de l'Atlantique is one of the world's largest shipyards, based in Saint-Nazaire, France. It was created in 1861 by Compagnie Générale Transatlantique, but since 1984 has been owned by Alstom then Aker Yards since 2006.  shipyards in St. Nazaire, France, and is currently on its way to Vancouver, where it will be the first cruise ship ever christened in the Canadian port city.

The ceremony is scheduled July 11 at the ship's berth in Canada Place.

 season July 12. The ship will be based at home ports in Vancouver and Seward for seven-day northbound or southbound Gulf of Alaska cruises, redeploying to the Panama Canal in the autumn.

Island Princess offers an array of signature Princess amenities, including the line's largest number of staterooms with private balconies. Highlights include the Bayou Cafe, a unique New Orleans-style restaurant, and the Universe Lounge, a dramatic two-deck performance venue equipped with the latest lighting and digital sound and video systems. This lounge is also home to the new ScholarShipSea enrichment program, which will keep passengers entertained with classes in culinary arts, photography, Web design and ceramics, among others.

Princess Cruises is a global cruise and tour company. Part of Carnival Corp., its current fleet of 10 ships sails on approximately 150 different itineraries around the globe, calling at more than 260 ports on all seven continents. By 2006, five more ships will be introduced.
