NEWBURY PARK LEAVES IT TO OLI; KEOHOHOU SCORES TWICE IN WIN : NEWBURY PARK 2, MOORPARK 1.

Byline: Jim Inghram Daily News Staff Writer

In a typical Newbury Park High softball softball, variant of baseball played with a larger ball on a smaller field. Invented (1888) in Chicago as an indoor game, it was at various times called indoor baseball, mush ball, playground ball, kitten ball, and, because it was also played by women, ladies'  game Oli Keohohou will do the little things to help the Panthers win. Against Moorpark on Tuesday, she did all of them.

The junior shortstop willed herself to score both the Panthers' runs in a 2-1 victory at Moorpark High, and she had the bumps bumps

 and scrapes to prove it.

with Newbury Park trailing 1-0, she laced a two-out triple to the fence and scored one pitch later on a short passed ball. As she slid head-first to beat the tag, Keohohou landed on her wrist and her helmet slammed into the plate.

She wasn't hurt and it provided the Panthers (13-3, 4-0) the spark they needed to remain undefeated in the Marmonte League The Marmonte League is a high school sports league primarily made up of schools from Ventura County. ``I did that to get our teams pumped up,'' Keohohou said. ``We've been off for a couple of days and seemed like we needed something to get us going.''

It did.

The game was still tied in the sixth when Keohohou struck again. This time she led off the inning with a single to right-center, and when the center fielder bobbled the ball, she advanced to second.

Nancy Pabon walked, putting runners at first and second. They both moved up a base on a wild pitch with Cindy Muran batting.

Daley's throw home easily beat Keohohou, she did an acrobatic hop-skip around Moorpark catcher Kellie Konsky and reached back to slap the plate.

It gave Newbury Park a 2-1 lead and eventually the victory.

``I was just hoping she wouldn't touch me,'' she said.

The whole sequence was set up by Keohohou's aggressive baserunning.

``I was watching (on the base hit) and when she didn't come up with it clean I went to second,'' Keohohou said. ``I figured it's easier to score from second that first, so I went for it.''

Said teammate Muran: ``Oli is always doing something like that. She's just so quick and so smart. Both plays really got us into the game.''

Moorpark scored its run in the second when Jennifer Perez singled in Michelle Willette, who opened the inning with a triple. It gave Moorpark hope early, that is, until Keohohou took over.
