NEWBRIDGE SUPPLIES FRAME RELAY NETWORK TO ERNST & YOUNG

BIRMINGHAM, U.K., NETWORKS '93 SHOW, June 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Newbridge Networks (NASDAQ: NNCXF) announced today that it has won a contract to supply a Frame Relay communications network to Ernst & Young UK. The contract includes supporting services and is valued at approximately $1,500,000.
The network will incorporate the complete range of Newbridge(R) networking multiplexers. The core network sites will be based on 3600 MainStreet(R) Bandwidth Managers equipped with Newbridge FAST(TM) Frame Relay switches. Newbridge will supply ACS 4000 series routers from Advanced Computer Communications (ACC) as feeders into the core Frame Relay network.
Ernst & Young is one of the world's leading professional services firms, helping organizations of all types to run efficiently, profitably and successfully. The company operates from 670 offices in 109 countries worldwide. The new Ernst & Young network connects 27 offices and 7000 employees in the UK.
The network was designed to provide Ernst & Young with an increased competitive advantage through the deployment of advanced IT services. The firm required the capability to instantly access and share powerful financial applications and management information.
According to Mr. Michael Broadbent, senior communications manager at Ernst & Young, "We sought a networking environment that would give us maximum flexibility and the ability to enhance and upgrade as necessary. While long term goals influenced our choice, we needed to ensure that changes in technologies and standards, and their implications were well understood by us and by our preferred supplier".
The Ernst & Young tender covered all areas of standards, technical requirements and network architecture, product direction, expandability, network management, support, training and project implementation. "In almost every area Newbridge scored higher than other suppliers when judged against our own stringent evaluation criteria," explained Mr. Broadbent. "Our decision was based mainly on the advantages we perceived in their network management system, the open-ended migration path and our belief in Newbridge as a partner with whom we could build a close working relationship."
"We worked very closely with Ernst & Young to understand their business strategy and needs", commented Andy Williams, Product Marketing Manager at Newbridge UK. "The solution we provided incorporated Frame Relay for the firm's considerable LAN interconnect requirement, and circuit switching for their voice requirement. We believe that this combination of technologies will give Ernst & Young the level of service and flexibility to meet its current and future requirements."
The Ernst & Young network will continue to expand to accommodate the firm's future network growth.
