NEWBRIDGE NETWORKS CHOSEN BY SOUTHWESTERN BELL TELEPHONE TO SUPPLY PRODUCTS FOR NEW 'TRANSPORT RESOURCE MANAGEMENT' OFFERING

 KANATA, Ontario, April 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Newbridge Networks (NASDAQ-NMS: NNCXF) announced today that it will supply the intelligent digital networking products for the Southwestern Bell Telephone Transport Resource Management (TRM) service. TRM service gives large business customers the capability to easily monitor, re-route and integrate their voice and data communications networks.

"The innovative application of the latest technologies in Newbridge(R) MainStreet(R) digital networking products has enabled the creation of the TRM service. Many of the prime services offered by TRM are based on the Newbridge platform, including intelligent bandwidth management and customer network management, among others."
 TRM is an intelligent bandwidth management service based on Newbridge 3645 MainStreet(R) High Capacity Bandwidth Manager, 3600 MainStreet Bandwidth Manager and 4602 MainStreet Intelligent NetworkStation(TM) products located at Southwestern Bell switching offices. As an alternative or complement to private networks, the service provides integrated voice, data and video multiplexing with advanced customer network management capability, subrate multiplexing, voice compression, voice and data bridging, frame relay switching, and fault tolerance.
 Subscribers to the TRM service will have more control of telephone services which is a key feature for large businesses.
 The service is available today throughout Texas and Missouri. Southwestern Bell plans to offer Transport Resource Management by the end of the year in the other states it serves -- Oklahoma, Kansas and Arkansas.
