In remembrance and honor of those who lost and gave their lives in the events of Tuesday, September 11, the Milarepa Foundation will be organizing NEW YORKERS AGAINST VIOLENCE, a fund- and consciousness-raising event on Oct. 28 & 29 at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom.

The New York City-based organizers, artists, DJs and speakers participating in the event will be giving back to their community in its hour of greatest need, providing assistance to people affected by the tragedy, and promoting dialogue on means to end violence and terror on a local and global scale -- whether it be further warfare abroad or hate crimes and terrorism here at home.

Tickets for the first night have completely sold out, necessitating the addition of a second show. The line-ups for the shows are as follows:

Sunday, Oct. 28: Beastie Boys, the B-52's, Cibo Matto, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Rival Schools, the Strokes, Saul Williams and DJ Stretch Armstrong.

Monday, Oct. 29: Beastie Boys, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Mos Def, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, the Roots and DJ Afrika Bambaata, plus special guests to be announced.

Mike D of Beastie Boys commented: "In light of everything New York City's firefighters, police and rescue workers have already done, getting this event together is the least we could do. The sacrifices and true heroics of these people have been an inspiration to the entire world."

All profits from the concerts will be donated to the New York Women's Foundation Disaster Relief Fund and the New York Association for New Americans (NYANA) September 11th Fund for New Americans. These two organizations are helping to assist those affected by the September 11 attack on the World Trade Center least likely to receive help from other major fundraising sources.

It is the greatest hope of the organizers and artists involved that the New York community will join them in uniting against violence in all its forms, while providing assistance to their neighbors.
