 NEW YORK RANGER TO RECEIVE STEVEN MCDONALD 'EXTRA EFFORT' AWARD;
 MITSUBISHI MOTORS TO SPONSOR EVENT AND DONATE CHECK TO CHARITY
 CYPRESS, Calif., March 26 /PRNewswire/ -- As people across the world applaud the determination and perseverance of international athletes for recent victories in the XVI Winter Olympic Games, Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America Inc. (MMSA) will recognize the every-day hero by presenting the fifth annual Steven McDonald "Extra Effort" Award to an outstanding New York Rangers hockey player at Madison Square Garden on April 2.
 Named in honor of Steven McDonald, a New York police officer who was tragically shot in the line of duty, the Steven McDonald "Extra Effort" Award is given to the player for his performance "above and beyond the call of duty" during the hockey season. In addition to the nomination, MMSA and the Tri-State area Mitsubishi Motors' dealers will present the winning Ranger with a 1992 Eclipse sports coupe.
 During the award ceremony, Mitsubishi Motors will also donate a check to the Steven McDonald Foundation that represents $50 for every team goal scored during the past year's hockey season. In four years, Mitsubishi has donated more than $45,000.
 "Mitsubishi Motors and the Tri-State area Mitsubishi Motors dealers take great pride in being a part of his event every year," said Don Lavin, general sales manager for MMSA. "The Steven McDonald 'Extra Effort' Award salutes Officer McDonald and all police officers for their courage and dedication."
 The winning Ranger player will be announced prior to the last game between the Rangers and the Pittsburgh Penguins. Officer McDonald and his wife Patti Ann will be present to accept the check on behalf of the Steven McDonald Foundation.
 McDonald was paralyzed from the neck down when he was shot in the line of duty in 1986. Today, McDonald has captured the hearts of New Yorkers by expressing the courage to speak out against violence and anti-crime by visiting schools and local community organizations. In addition to delivering his inspirational message to teenagers across the community, McDonald also takes time to speak with families and relatives of officers who have been injured in the line of duty.
 Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America Inc. (MMSA) was established in 1982 by Mitsubishi Motors Corp., Tokyo, and markets and full-line of sub-compacts, compacts, sports coupes, grand touring sports cars, luxury sedans, sport wagons, light trucks and sport utility vehicles.
