NEW YORK POWER AUTHORITY ACTIONS LINKED TO 6,000 JOBS

 NEW YORK, Feb. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- New York Power Authority trustees had a full docket at their meeting here Tuesday as they approved "Power for Jobs" electricity allocations for 17 companies.
 "Not a bad day's work," said Power Authority Chairman Richard M. Flynn. "For New York State, we've helped attract or protect nearly 6,000 jobs and secured more than a quarter of a billion dollars of investment in plant and equipment."
 Allocations of 13,550 kilowatts (kw) of the Power Authority's lower- cost hydroelectric and nuclear power approved Tuesday under Flynn's Power for Jobs program will create 840 jobs and protect 4,957 existing positions at the 17 companies in Western New York and on Long Island.
 Altogether, Power Authority electricity helps protect more than 150,000 jobs statewide.
 Following is a summary of the allocations approved Tuesday:
 Allocations of hydroelectric power from the Niagara Power Project near Niagara Falls:
 Erie County
 -- Christian Salvesen Inc., based in Scotland, plans to operate a new frozen food warehouse at the North America Center industrial park in West Seneca. It will invest $20 million and create 50 jobs in return for 500 kw.
 -- Ford Motor Co. plans to invest $205 million for new machinery at its automotive parts stamping plant in Buffalo. The plant will receive 2,900 kw, protecting 2,400 existing jobs and creating another 218.
 -- General Motors Corp.-Saginaw Division will add 89 jobs at its Buffalo axle plant with a $4 million expansion designed to secure new business. Its 500-kw allocation also will help to preserve almost 1,700 existing jobs.
 -- Reliable Plastics Recycling Corp., based in Ontario, will receive 800 kw for a polyethylene film recycling and pelletizing plant it will build in Lackawanna. The company will invest $5 million and create 80 jobs.
 Niagara County
 -- Cadillac Rubber & Plastics Inc., which molds rubber and plastic automotive components, will create 24 jobs in Lockport, when it relocates equipment from a plant in Michigan. It will spend $900,000 on the project and will receive 250 kw.
 -- Nuttall Gear Corp. plans to invest $250,000 to expand production of gear drives at its Niagara Falls plant. It will add 35 jobs to the existing 100.
 -- Stollberg Inc. will invest more than $5 million to expand manufacture of molding-related equipment and powders for the steel industry, doubling its 15-member work force in Niagara Falls. Its allocation is 300 kw.
 Orleans County
 -- Brunner Inc., a Southern Ontario manufacturer of automotive air brake components, will create 153 jobs in Ridgeway where it will spend $2.8 million to renovate and equip a vacant building. The company will receive 1,500 kw.
 Allocations from the James A. FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant on Lake Ontario, near Oswego:
 Nassau County
 -- General Instrument Corp. of Westbury will receive 500 kw in return for creating 19 new jobs and investing $2.5 million to expand production of silicon materials used in manufacturing electronic products.
 -- Southside Laundry of Hempstead has committed to 256 jobs, including 41 new positions, in return for 700 kw. It will carry out a $1.6 million expansion.
 Suffolk County
 -- Burton Industries of North Babylon has agreed to retain 31 jobs for a 600-kw allocation. The company provides heat treating services for aerospace metals and other applications.
 -- Commercial Envelope Manufacturing Co. of Deer Park will maintain 155 jobs in return for 400 kw.
 -- Jameco Industries of Wyandanch, which produces plumbing supplies, will receive 600 kw and preserve 282 jobs.
 -- Newsday will use its 850-kw allocation to power a new data processing center in Melville, that will provide 51 jobs with an investment of about $8.6 million.
 The two Nassau County allocations and those to Barton Industries and Newsday are subject to the Governor's approval.
 Allocations under the Power for Jobs program for municipal and rural cooperative electric systems (from the Niagara Power Project and other Power Authority sources):
 Chautauqua County
 -- Cal Graphite America will invest at least $5 million to convert a vacant facility in Brocton to a graphite processing plant. It will receive up to 800 kw and will create 35 jobs.
 Wyoming County
 -- Dry Creek Products Inc. will receive up to 900 kw for a new fuel pellet plant in Arcade, creating 30 jobs. The plant will use sawdust from area lumber mills to make fuel for special stoves for home heating.
 -- New York Pellet Products, which will make fuel pellets from discarded wooden pallets at its new plant in Arcade, will receive up to 1,100 kw, create 51 jobs.
