NEW YORK: COLUMBIA FACES SUIT OVER FOOD-POISONING TEST.


Columbia University Columbia University, mainly in New York City; founded 1754 as King's College by grant of King George II; first college in New York City, fifth oldest in the United States; one of the eight Ivy League institutions.  and an assistant professor at its business school face a libel suit by six restaurant owners who claim they were damaged by letters falsely claiming food poisoning food poisoning, acute illness following the eating of foods contaminated by bacteria, bacterial toxins, natural poisons, or harmful chemical substances. It was once customary to classify all such illnesses as "ptomaine poisoning," but it was later discovered that  in an experiment to see how businesses respond to complaints.
