Medscape shareholders will receive 0.323 MediaLogic shares for each share of Medscape. Medscape supplies online content for physicians and consumers and claims to have 1.7 million registered users, although a breakdown of professionals and consumer users was not given. The company operates a Web site for physicians and CBSHealthwatch.com for consumers in partnership with CBS (Cell Broadcast Service) See cell broadcast.  Corp. Media-Logic produces medical records tracking software and is in the process of transferring all operations to the Internet.

With the purchase, MediaLogic said it hopes to be able to offer physicians access to both medical records and specific medical information related to those records. Consumers will be able to access editorial content and their records, order prescriptions and interact with their doctors.

MediaLogic also acquired Total eMed (Nashville, TN), a company that provides transcription transcription /trans·crip·tion/ (-krip´shun) the synthesis of RNA using a DNA template catalyzed by RNA polymerase; the base sequences of the RNA and DNA are complementary.
