The measure by Assemblywoman Kerry Mazzoni Kerry Mazzoni was a California State Assemblywoman from the 6th District from 1994-2000.

Ms. Mazzoni was a member of the Novato School Board. She defeated incumbent Vivian Bronshvag in the 1994 primary.
, D-San Rafael, also requires veteran teachers to complete computer technology studies to be approved by the state Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

All of the new computer competency requirements will take effect Jan. 1, 2000.

Mazzoni said computer literacy Understanding computers and related systems. ``California is the center for technology in the world. It is only appropriate that our schools be on the cutting edge,'' she said. ``I believe strongly that unless we as individuals are able to use technology to help us in our professions, we are not able to transmit that value'' to students.

``We expect the highest from our teachers. This will go a long ways to maximize our investment in classroom technology,'' Mazzoni added.

Mazzoni and Wilson said the 2000 effective date was appropriate to allow time to develop the new standards and to put new and current teachers on notice that they will need the additional skills.

Wilson also used the bill-signing ceremony to unveil a new Web site with information about his $100 million ``digital high school'' program, an effort to equip up to 200 California high schools California High School (commonly referred to as Cal High) is a public school located in San Ramon, California, a suburb of San Francisco, Oakland, and Silicon Valley. Its mascot is a Grizzly Bear. The school's newspaper is The Californian which is published monthly.  with modern computers and training.

The Web site (http://www.digitalhigh.ca.gov) includes information both on how schools may participate in the program and how private citizens and businesses may contribute computers for the program.
