NEW SYSTEM STARTS 'HARMONIZATION' TO HELP F-35 PROGRAM SAVE MONEY.

Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) is a leading multinational aerospace manufacturer and advanced technology company formed in 1995 by the merger of Lockheed Corporation with Martin Marietta.
 completed the first delivery of hardware for the F-35 joint strike fighter program The Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) became synonymous with the later F-35 Lightning II, however until 2001 the term was applied to the competition between the Boeing X-32 and Lockheed Martin X-35.  with the installation of avionics test equipment at QM Systems in Worcester, England, and at Raytheon in McKinney, Texas McKinney is a city in Collin County, Texas (USA), the county seat and second in population to Plano. As of the 2006, the North Central Texas Council of Governments estimated the city population to be 102,853. .

The delivery initiates a ``harmonization'' program that includes Lockheed Martin, its avionics suppliers and F-35 JSF (JavaServerFaces) A standard framework of components for building rich user interfaces for Java applications. JavaServer Faces run on the server, but are displayed on the client.

 will make it less expensive for our customers to buy and support complex weapons systems like the F-35 JSF,'' said John Hallal, president of Lockheed Martin Information Systems.

The avionic test equipment combines a ``open-systems'' architecture, compatibility with standard test systems used by the Defense Department and international customers, and next-generation test capabilities with a Web-based support system, officials said.

In harmonization, all avionics manufacturers in the F-35 JSF program will use a common test system tailored to each firm's specific requirements. More than 85 stations are expected to fill the program's test requirements during the system development and demonstration phase.

Lockheed Martin's approach is estimated to help customers save approximately $800 million over several decades.

The LM-STAR test system was designed and developed by Lockheed Martin Information Systems.

M-STAR production work is currently under way at the Orlando-based Lockheed Martin Information Systems facility.

, supersonic F-35 is designed to replace the AV-8B Harrier, A-10, F-16, F/A-18 and United Kingdom's Harrier GR.7 and Sea Harrier. It is intended to be flown by the U.S. Air Force, Marine Corps and Navy, and by other nations' armed forces.

Lockheed Martin's principal partners are Northrop Grumman Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) is an aerospace and defense conglomerate that is the result of the 1994 purchase of Grumman by Northrop. The company is the third largest defense contractor for the U.S.  and BAE Systems. Two separate but interchangeable engines are under development by Pratt & Whitney and General Electric.

F-35 work is done in Palmdale by Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman. The jets will be assembled in Fort Worth.
