NEW SUPERINTENDENT LEAVES AFTER ONE YEAR.Byline: KAREN MAESHIRO Staff Writer LAKE HUGHES -- After only a year on the job, Hughes-Elizabeth Lakes Union School District Superintendent-Principal Dean Bentley has resigned to take a superintendent job in Bakersfield. Trustees have approved spending $4,000 to hire a superintendent search firm that specializes in working with small school districts. ``We are hoping to find a well-qualified superintendent who will stay a while,'' board President Lola Skelton said. Bentley's last day was June 30. The district is seeking someone who can fill the dual role of superintendent and principal. ``What we need is a superintendent-principal because being a one-school district and a very small school district, that's what we need,'' Skelton said. Bentley was a former cop, hardware store clerk and Wisconsin dairy farmer. Before coming to the Hughes district, he worked last as an interim administrator at two districts.
