NEW STUDY REVEALS PARENTS PREFER CENTER-BASED CHILD CARE: ENHANCES SOCIAL & LEARNING SKILLS

NEW YORK, Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- A new survey reveals that today's working mothers have a changed attitude toward center-based child care; in fact, three out of four mothers of infants, toddlers and preschoolers report that their children are learning more, while becoming more socially adept, in a child care center than they would at home.
"Parents put an especially high premium on the social skills that their child gains from group experiences in quality child care centers. In addition, these parents are observing cognitive, emotional and physical growth in their children that they believe contributes to their readiness for first grade," says Dr. Marcy Guddemi, vice president of education and research for KinderCare Learning Centers, the nation's largest child care company.
Expert Tips On Finding A Quality Child Care Center
For first-time parents new to the world of child care, or parents looking for different center-based care, choosing a safe, enriching and reliable child care center is a time-consuming, and often confusing, task. Dr. Guddemi offers the following insights on what to look for when selecting a child care center:
-- Make sure that the child care center has an open door policy welcoming you to "drop in" at any time. Be sure that child care providers are enthusiastic about caring for their group of children and are cognizant of each child's potential to grow and develop.
-- Children are active "hands-on" learners and should be exposed to many varied activities and toys that challenge their development and use of all senses. They should be active and involved throughout the day, not restricted to "table-top" activities. Be sure that the center has age-appropriate toys for your child. These may include building blocks, books, writing materials and puzzles. Look for a combination of store- bought and teacher-made toys, including those designed for outdoor play.
-- The truest gauge of a quality child care center is the children! If they are happy, smiling and comfortable in their surroundings, then you know that you are making the right decision.
KinderCare Learning Centers, Inc. cares for more than 120,000 children at over 1,200 child care centers in 39 states. The company was founded in 1969.
