NEW PUBLIC TELEVISION SERIES "HEALTHY PETS, HEALTHY PEOPLE" TO DEBUT IN JANUARY

Series To Highlight Physical And Emotional Benefits Of Pet Ownership
 GREENSBORO, N.C., Nov. 23 ~PRNewswire~ -- A public television series to debut in January 1993 will feature the surprising physical and emotional benefits of pet ownership and offer advice on the responsibilities that go along with it. The seven-part series "Healthy Pets, Healthy People" is being funded by CIBA-GEIGY Animal Health, and is being produced by Carolina Television Productions in association with Thirteen~WNET in New York.
 As titles of each of the half-hour shows suggest, the series will highlight the latest research on the physical and emotional benefits of owning a pet, relationships between pets and their owners, as well as the importance of veterinary care and preventive medicine to a pet's life. The program titles are: Exploring the Human~Animal Bond, Pets as Therapy, Zoological Medicine, Veterinary Medicine and Human Health, Choosing the Right Pet, Equine Medicine, and Veterinary Medicine-Present and Future.

Animal Health. "It's in this spirit that CIBA-GEIGY Animal Health wants to take an active role in promoting pet ownership.
 Beginning in January, the public will learn about the program through their local veterinarians, grassroots publicity, advertising, TV and program guides, public television stations, veterinary newsletters, pet enthusiast publications and informational materials in veterinary clinics across the country. Interested pet owners or future pet owners will be encouraged to watch local listings for broadcast dates and times in their local markets.
 Dr. Richard Ford, associate dean of Medical Services and Director of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital at North Carolina State University, will be the official host of "Healthy Pets, Healthy People." A special "Pet Check" segment, where Dr. Ford will give helpful tips on specific pet health issues, will be presented during each show. Tips on heartworm prevention and pet nutrition will be among the subjects explored.
 CIBA-GEIGY Animal Health and Thirteen~WNET are making this series available to the more than 300 public television stations across the country which together reach an estimated 91 million viewers each week.
