NEW PHONE SERVICE HELPS BUSINESSES INCREASE PRODUCTIVITY & PROFITS

VIENNA, Va., July 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Starting today, Cable & Wireless Communications (CWC) will begin offering a new long distance service to single-location businesses that can actually help increase employee productivity and reduce operating costs.
"The market for this service is vast," said Gabe Battista, CWC's chief operating officer. "We estimate that approximately 99 percent of all small businesses and 60 percent of all medium-sized businesses operate from a single location and are therefore ideal prospects."
The new service, called Cable and Wireless Simplicity, was developed for single-site companies which use traditional switched outbound, 800 inbound, conference calling and calling card services, but do not have manpower dedicated to managing their telecommunications. A dedicated access service, Cable & Wireless Simplicity Direct is also available for companies which have a high volume of long distance calling.
"Simplicity's management information and customized discount features make the service unique because they actually help businesses reduce operating costs and save time -- valuable resources for companies with few employees," said Battista. "In essence, we give companies an extra set of productivity tools to manage their businesses more efficiently."
For example, Simplicity customers receive an "intelligent phone bill" which aggregates charges for all types of services into one invoice and sorts calls by any category. This invoicing format eliminates the need for office managers to review multiple invoices and manually cross reference costs that must be charged to clients or internal cost centers.
Simplicity's customized discounts help businesses reduce costs by tailoring savings to a company's unique calling patterns. Since single- location companies typically have regional calling patterns, CWC designed Simplicity to give customers discounts on calls to frequently called domestic and international regions and to their top five most frequently called U.S. destinations.
Other customized cost reduction features include a unique discount on calls to a company's most frequently called area code. This type of discount also applies to the area code from which the most in-bound 800 calls are received. Savings are automatically calculated and adjusted monthly to keep pace with changing calling patterns. Simplicity customers are also eligible for time-of-day, volume and term discounts.
Single location businesses will be able to save time through Simplicity's management information features. CWC puts information technology to work for companies in the form of management reports. Customers typically use these reports to control abuse, identify unusual calling patterns and gain insight into companywide calling trends and costs.
Simplicity expands the CWC product portfolio which already includes integrated services for multi-location customers.
Cable & Wireless Communications, Inc., the nation's largest long distance company exclusively serving businesses, is a subsidiary of Cable & Wireless plc (NYSE: CWP), a multi-national telecommunications organization with operations in 50 countries. CWC is an industry leader in the development of customized long distance and management information services. Basic services include domestic and international out-bound, 800 in-bound, calling card, conference calling and enhanced facsimile services. Private line and managed data services are also available.
