Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region, , already the biggest PGA section in the nation, now is only the second with its own championship course. The 36-hole PGA of Southern California at Oak Valley golf complex opened July 1 for the public to play, offering six sets of tees - including ``learners loops'' of half-yardage beginners tees - on both the Legends and Champions courses. Designed by Lee Schmidt and Brian Curley, the PGA facility is built on 500 acres just west of the junction of the 10 and 60 freeways, about a two-hour drive from the San Fernando Valley San Fernando Valley Valley, southern California, U.S. Northwest of central Los Angeles, the valley is bounded by the San Gabriel, Santa Susana, and Santa Monica mountains and the Simi Hills. . The Legends course also has the par-5 ``Hopscotch,'' which requires two crossings of a creek to negotiate its 590-yard, tour-tee length.
