NEW PDAs FIRST TO OFFER EMBARC WIRELESS MESSAGING CAPABILITIES

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla., Oct. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Using personal digital assistants as a communications tool has become a reality today as Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT), today announced the availability of its EMBARC Communication Services with three new personal digital assistants.
The Tandy Z-PDA, Casio Z-7000 and GRiD 2390, all running on the GEOS operating system, will provide users with wireless delivery of electronic mail and information services ranging from daily weather reports to hourly financial news updates from Reuters, when they subscribe to EMBARC.
"The GEOS system and this new group of personal digital assistants offer business travelers a convenient yet extremely powerful communications tool," said Brad Davis, director of strategic marketing for EMBARC. "Their small size and ease-of-use make them an ideal platform for EMBARC information and E-mail services."
EMBARC Communication Services Inc., wholly owned by Motorola, Inc., is a wireless electronic mail system with service to more than 220 cities across the United States and Canada. EMBARC uses advanced paging technology, computer software and satellite transmissions to deliver wireless E-mail. With this combination, information can be sent from modem-equipped computers using electronic mail to the EMBARC Motorola NewsCard, a PCMCIA Advanced Information Receiver. The receivers download messages directly to the PDA or store them for later use.
"We expect that the benefits of receiving wireless messaging, news and business-related information automatically will accelerate the adoption of PDAs," Davis said. "Offering this type of communications greatly expands their already extensive base of built-in features and capabilities."
With EMBARC, users of the Tandy, Casio or GRiD PDAs can receive electronic mail, data, reports and a wide range of information and news services, such as:
-- USA TODAY daily news and weather reports
 -- Reuters Financial News updates
-- HeadsUp! from Individual, Inc., targeted industry news briefs
