NEW PATENT LAW PUBLICATION BEGINS THIS MONTH

WAYNE, Pa., June 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Patent validity, ownership and infringement -- elements which are of critical significance in the world of invention -- are among the subjects in a new report due out this month from Mealey Publications Inc.
Scheduled for launch on June 14, Mealey's Litigation Report: Patents, will be devoted to covering a wide range of issues of interest to the thousands of attorneys who practice in this highly specialized field of law.
In addition to validity, ownership and infringement, the report also will cover cases from around the country on licensing agreements; patent reexamination and reissuance; the application of advertising injury coverage to infringement actions; and appeals from proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
The journal will pay particular attention to decisions by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, which has appellate jurisdiction over patent cases.
Examples of cases to be covered are two that were before the U.S. Supreme Court. In a landmark ruling in Cardinal v. Morton, the court said noninfringement is not a sufficient basis for the Federal Circuit to vacate a declaratory judgment of patent validity. In Sinskey v. Pharmacia, the high court let stand a ruling that "contemporaneous evidence" -- not just after-the-fact testimony -- is required to prove that use of an invention prior to filing a patent application was purely for experimental use.
Each addition of Mealey's Litigation Report: Patents will include summaries of developments from courts across the country, as well as reprints of court opinions and pleadings.
Located in suburban Philadelphia, Mealey's also publishes a report on general intellectual property litigation. Other reports from the publisher focus on asbestos, lead, environmental insurance, breast implants, Superfund, punitive damages, bad faith, reinsurance, insurance insolvency, international arbitration, directors and officers liability, and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
